Essay on The Unifying Field of Love by Torrey and Neil
There is a Unifying Field of Love that we all exist in. There is no separate one, there is
only The Unifying Field where everything is in Unity, all arising as the same Love.
There is no difference or separation from anything or anyone. There is this Field of
Love, or the Divine, always Present. It Is here, and can be Realized by living a real
spiritual process in relationship with the True Guru.
The Guru is that Unifying Field of Love, Living as It, Radiating It. The Guru’s Gift of
Grace is that She reveals this Field of Love, and can also reveal the process of awakening
from the spell of the ego – a process which is unknown to ordinary people. Her very
difficult task is to reveal and then un-do the ego itself, by uncovering the unconscoius
beliefs of being a separate personal one, a one who actually does not exist in the
Relational Field of Unifying Love. The Relational Field of Unifying Love is the only
Real Domain.
The basic belief of the ego culture is that we are all separate ones, and that we are here to
achieve personal fulfillment through experience. This unnoticed and yet completely
assumed sense of separation naturally and logically creates the unhappiness that
motivates us to compete and struggle with everyone ‘else’ to gain our private sense of
happiness, to engage in the warfare within the ego-field of relationship, where selfless
love is not a primary motivator.
From the ego-motivated point of view, love is never assumed or given freely, but is rather
strategically and cravenly sought for according to the private terms of getting fulfilled.
The ego sees everyone and everything as an object to be used for its own imagined
fulfillment. And since no one is happy to play that role for anyone else (just a submissive
pawn) there is constant competition, manipulation, coersion, abuse! There is war.
This entire ego-field of relating divorces us from the awareness and True Being of
Unifying Love. There is only the Unifying Field of Love, but ego thoughts and patterns
swirl desperately in our search for self-fulfillment, and therefore egos do not and cannot
notice anything – not what is Real, not their own motivation, not what they are actually
doing, not the effect they are having on others. In the egoic position, our lives are not
lived in conscious relationship to everything in the Unifying Field of Love! We are
contracted in body and mind around the negative thoughts of our culture, as well as the
hopeful, giddy fantasies of ourselves (Princes and Princesses, vying to be Queens and
Kings ideas…) which are based on the seaparate one and our right to be fulfilled here in
the ego field of relatability.
These thoughts are reinforced everywhere in the culture, and by every assumed separate
one to every other. There are cues and clues we are always giving and receiving that go
along with this, that acknowledge that false separation as Reality. We all feel it is phony
almost all the time, and that we ourselves are phony in relationship, but part of these cues
and clues is that no one questions any of it. Even as the ‘culture’ appears more and more
degraded, with no standard of goodness or love or right action, still no one questions it.
Even as people only use each other as objects of their desire without giving an ounce of
love, and even with the obviously negative impact on all relationships, and everyone’s
real suffering, still no questions are asked.
When the True Guru comes to Give the greatest Gift of Truth of Who we really are, Their
revelation is a confirmation of all we longed for and felt in our hearts to be True. The
True Guru is also a Fire of un-doing the false beliefs we now defend as who we are –
those beliefs that we defend without the conscious awareness that we suffer them.
The True Guru, Living As the Unifying Field of Love, is willing to persist here in
uncovering the source of our suffering – our own actions and beliefs! In most cases, this
is a real struggle with ego defending its solid and stubborn insistance in existing as an
identity – which is the lie that causes all of the suffering for all beings here. By Infinite
Grace and Love, the True Guru is willing to reveal this secret, and the Heart’s Secret, to
whoever will come into the room with Them, and stay there. It is the Truth, the heart
attraction to the Guru, that allows us to endure our undoing. It is the Infinite Love and
Shine of the Unifying Field of Love in the form of our Guru that makes such a process
possible. It is freedom from all false beliefs, and freedom from the ego field of relating.
It is Freedom as knowing, in all wonder and certainty, that we are only the Unifying Field
of Love Itself.
